Project Quoting
When generating quotes for a project, it is very important to include the engineers that have domain and technical expertise in the process. Preference is given to employee engineers over contractors so that the employees have a chance to see new projects coming in-house and so that the company does not incur the contracting rate while generating a quote for a client. If needed, however, choosing a contractor is appropriate if their skill set is an ideal match and the client is likely to sign.
There are various levels of estimation that can lead to a quote. Review the Estimation page for more information on the different levels. If the client is serious and the quote will be part of a SOW and falls within our +/-15% error spread, then the quote will need to be based on well-defined requirements. If the requirements are not well-defined, a Discovery Phase might be required. Review the Estimation and Discovery Report pages for ways to achieve the well-defined requirements.
During the meeting where the requirements are given to the engineers, work with the engineers to determine how much time they will require to create the estimation. Be sure to keep the time reasonable. It’s okay to suggest a timeline so that the engineer can time-box the effort in their own mind.
Once the estimation is complete, review it and adjust it as needed, adding in all of the other items from the Estimation page. From there, quote it out in the SOW with the current pricing. Once that is completed, deliver the SOW to Sales.
